Noise and vibration engineering for industrial projects

The engineering method

The value of noise and vibration engineering is often underestimated. In some cases, noise control is even postponed to the detailed enginineering phase, relying much on supplementary mitigation after commissioning. By involving noise control as a full engineering discipline throughout the projects, noise from equipment and piping may be optimally controlled and the use of silencers, acoustic insulation and enclosures can, to a great extent, be avoided. As a result, the costs of projects and negative aspects for safety, reliability, operations and maintenance will be kept to a minimum. The possibilities for noise reduction after start-up are usually limited by time-schedules, technical restraints and budget limitations, although noise requirements are usually covered by make-good guarantees. Accurate and efficient noise and vibration engineering not only contributes to quality and financial results of engineering projects, but it also constrains delay and costs after start-up”.
